The Ultimate Guide to one of Sydney Harbour's Best Beaches.

Set in the affluent suburb of Mosman, Balmoral is a picture perfect harbour beach and one of the most popular on Sydney’s North Shore. The 1 km long expanse is actually made up of 2 beaches separated by Rocky Point island. Edwards beach is on the Northern side and Balmoral beach is on the Southern side. It’s a beautiful part of Sydney, a picture perfect beach holiday postcard with the iconic Bathers Pavilion, public baths and boats in the background.

Cobblers Beach

Past the Southern end of Balmoral at the end of Middle Head road is Cobblers - a tiny secluded beach surrounded by bushland. There are great views of the Harbour and it's a nice spot for a swim and paddle. It’s also designated nude bathing area.

Obelisk Beach

Facing the other side of the Harbour at the intersection of Middle Head road and Chowder Bay road lies Obelisk a ‘gay friendly’ nude beach.

Swimming in Balmoral

Built in 1898, the Balmoral public baths is a large netted swimming enclosure with a boardwalk surrounding it. The wide walkway is a nice place for a stroll and photos and serves as a platform for kids to do what kids love doing - jumping off from it. On the Northern end of Edwards Beach, there are natural rock pools for kids to explore.

Balmoral Swimmers

The Balmoral Swimmers are a social swimming club that meet for a swim Sunday mornings year round. If you would like to join in this fun and healthy activity check out their website. balmoralswimmers.org.au

Boating & Paddleboarding

The gentle waters and safe surroundings around Balmoral are perfect for boating and stand up paddleboarding. You can hire these from the Balmoral Boat Shed on the side of the baths. If you would like to try kayaking, Sydney Harbour Kayaks will rent them out from their Spit Bridge location where you start off on your trip to Balmoral.
